April 2, 2024 Dear Port Washington Community:
On Monday, April 8, 2024, from about 3:15 to 3:30 p.m. there will be a solar eclipse. Please note, it will be a regular dismissal. Long Island will not experience a total eclipse; about 88 percent of the sun will be shadowed for us. During the eclipse, remember to protect your eyes: Please reinforce with your children not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse.
To safely view the eclipse, the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) recommends wearing ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses from a trusted source.
The DEC has issued Public Safety Information and Viewing Guidance for the 2024 Solar Eclipse.
