Daly Elementary School Commemorates World Diabetes Day with Annual Fundraiser

Daly Elementary School honored World Diabetes Day with a school wide fundraiser to support Type 1 diabetes research and awareness, a tradition that began years ago with fifth grader Anthony P.

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the end of kindergarten, Anthony took it upon himself to start educating others by organizing a special spirit day in first grade. What began as a way to explain his condition to his classmates has since grown to involve the entire Daly Elementary community.

In second grade, Anthony expanded the fundraiser, transforming it into a schoolwide event where students and staff wear blue and/or pajamas to show solidarity with those affected by diabetes. Over the past few years, this initiative has raised nearly $3,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), funding important research to advance treatment and find a cure.

“Anthony’s courage and commitment have inspired everyone at Daly,” said Lucia Laguarda, Principal of Daly Elementary School. “He has turned his own experience into a powerful way to educate and unite our community, and we are incredibly proud to support him in this effort.”

Anthony’s story serves as a reminder of the positive impact one student can make. Daly Elementary School is proud to support his mission and encourage all students to learn about World Diabetes Day.
