Championing Science: Weber Middle School and Schreiber High School at State Olympiad Competition

Port Washington, NY, May 2024- Weber Middle School and Schreiber High School excelled at the Science Olympiad State Competition held in the greater Syracuse area March/April. With fifteen students from each school participating in nearly 25 events over two days, they showcased their academic skills against 40 top teams from across New York State.

Among the notable achievements, Otto Schindler-Thomsen and Emily Mark brought home the gold with their 1st place finish in the “Fast Facts” event.  The “Fossils” team of Remy Pokrassa and Otto Schindler-Thomsen brought home a 9th place medal.  Elyssa Geisler and Ada Li medaled 7th overall in “Optics.”  Ashley Guo and Gwyneth Mileta earned an 8th place medal in “Write it Do it.”
  
Justin Lee and Connor Moroney earned 5th place in the “Fossils” event.  Austin Li and Theo Grigorenko competed in “Optics” and finished 6th overall at the state level.  

Prior to the state competition, several of Schreiber/Weber’s academic team members had already showcased their talents at the regional level, bringing home medals in many events. It was the outstanding performance of those students collectively that earned both schools the opportunity to compete at the state level.

This success underscores the commitment and dedication of the Port Washington School District's Science Olympiad teams, reflecting their continuous pursuit of excellence in scientific inquiry and academic competition.
