On March 9,2024 students from Paul D. Schreiber High School in the New York State Latina Mentoring program participated in a collaborative initiative organized by Latina Moms Connect, Port Washington UFSD, Central Islip UFSD, and Uniondale UFSD, with the aim of empowering young Latina women. The event underscored the districts’ collective commitment to inclusivity and the celebration of diverse narratives. It comprised a panel discussion and roundtable sessions where students and mentors delved into topics such as culture, identity, challenges, and personal growth. Through creating a supportive atmosphere, the event facilitated open dialogue and cultivated a feeling of safety for students to share their personal experiences, hurdles, and accomplishments, which they may not typically feel comfortable discussing.
